Moving from Resistance into Flow

Assuming your physical health is okay — that there’s no illness draining your energy or capacity — but you still find yourself stuck in procrastination, lack of motivation, or a general “meh” feeling toward life… you might actually be sitting in resistance.

Resistance is that invisible force that keeps us spinning our wheels. It’s when we’re pushing, striving, or fighting with life instead of flowing with it.

When we’re in resistance, we’re in the fight.

What does that really mean?

Life, in its natural state, is about flow. When we’re aligned — mind, body, and spirit — things just move. Ideas come. Energy rises. We feel inspired.

But when we’re not in alignment, it’s like banging your head against an invisible brick wall. You’re trying to move forward, but something in you just won’t let it happen.

So if you’re forcing yourself to do something that your whole being doesn’t want to do — no wonder you’re procrastinating! That’s not laziness. That’s resistance.

If you find yourself constantly angry, upset, worried, or stressed — especially about the same thing over and over — that’s also a sign. Resistance is sitting right there, waiting for you to notice it.

So the question becomes:
What’s underneath the resistance?

Why does this particular thing cause so much stress, worry, or irritation? Once you get curious about that, you can start to shift it.

You might still have to finish the task or face the challenge — but you can find new ways to do it that bring relief, lightness, or even joy. Sometimes all it takes is a tiny adjustment or a little help.

My Personal Brick Wall: Tech

Many of you know that my biggest stressor is tech.

I didn’t grow up with a phone in my hand or the internet as my playground, so when I hit a tech wall, I hit it hard.

A few years ago, I had to learn to simply walk away from my laptop when things weren’t flowing. Sitting there, getting more and more frustrated, was doing me no good.

I’m not afraid to experiment — I’ll Google, press all the buttons, and try everything I can. But when nothing works, I go straight into overwhelm.

And here’s what I’ve learned: when overwhelm hits, it’s time to stop.
Go make a cup of tea (I am in England, after all).
Step away.
Breathe.

Recently, I decided enough was enough and hired my daughter-in-law — who’s brilliant with tech — to help me.

After our three-hour session together, I was literally in tears. Tears of joy and relief. Just knowing I had help, lifted such a huge weight off my shoulders. Suddenly, there was light at the end of the tunnel.

Should I have asked for help sooner?
Absolutely.

But when we’re in the thick of it, we keep telling ourselves, “I can do this. I’m capable. I don’t need help.”

There comes a time when we have to admit: we can’t — or simply don’t want to — do it all on our own.

Learning from My Father

I recently spent five weeks with my father — the most one-on-one time we’ve ever had. And wow, did I see where I get this from!

He has plenty of help in his life, but when he actually needs help, he won’t ask for it. He insists he’s fine. Always fine.

And there I was, watching him, realizing I do the exact same thing.

While still away, I booked a Zoom call with my daughter-in-law, because I thought, “Right, Shannon, you’re a chip off the old block. Let’s break this pattern now.”

Even after 25 years of self-development work, we’re all still peeling back layers of our own conditioning. There’s always one thorn that gets us every time.

So take a moment to look at your parents. Look at the patterns running through your family. These reflections hold such valuable clues for your own healing.

The more awareness you bring to these cycles, the easier it becomes to move out of resistance — and back into flow.

Because once you’re flowing again, everything changes. Motivation returns. Inspiration sparks. And that next step feels exciting, not exhausting.

If this resonates with you and you’d like to explore it more deeply, I’d love to have a conversation.

And if you have an interesting birth story — whether it was blissful, strange, or simply unique — I’d love to hear it on my show, Beyond Birth Trauma: From Burden to Brilliance.

I’ve even had an animal communicator on the show, because our animals mirror our energy, our personalities, and even our illnesses! Next week, I’ll be speaking with a businesswoman about breaking barriers — her birth story is woven in, but the conversation goes so much deeper.

It’s amazing how many people are afraid to share their story because they feel it’s “too personal.” But vulnerability is how we heal — both ourselves and others.

We need to talk about the things nobody talks about. That’s what Beyond Birth Trauma is all about.

So if you have a story, an experience, or even just a unique perspective — get in touch. I’d love to hear from you.

With love,
Shannon
