There’s a particular kind of flatness that hits when something big is changing in your life. Not depression exactly. Not laziness. Just a strange, heavy nothing where your get-up-and-go used to live.
I’ve been there. More than once.
The first time it scared me. I had things to do, a life to run, a version of myself that was supposed to be functioning. And instead I was staring at the wall wondering why I couldn’t make myself care about any of it.
What nobody tells you about big life transitions is that they don’t announce themselves with fanfare. They announce themselves with exhaustion. With a sudden inability to do the things that used to come easily. With a creeping sense that the path you’re on has quietly run out of road.
Your nervous system knows before your mind does.
It starts withdrawing energy from the old direction long before you’ve consciously decided to leave it. That’s not breakdown. That’s intelligence. The body doesn’t waste fuel on a journey that’s ending.
But sometimes there’s something else underneath the flatness. Subconscious limiting beliefs that have been running quietly in the background for years, shaping what you think is possible, what you think you deserve, what you think you’re allowed to want. They don’t always announce themselves either. They just sit in the shadows, keeping the ceiling low, making the new direction feel vaguely dangerous or somehow not for you.
When those beliefs start to shift, it can feel worse before it feels better. Old stories loosening their grip tends to look a lot like chaos from the inside. But that loosening is also where the awareness lives. Heal the belief and suddenly you can see what was actually blocking the path.
So if you’re sitting there right now wondering why you can’t motivate yourself to do the things you’re supposed to do, ask a different question. Not what’s wrong with me but what’s trying to change, and what’s been quietly standing in the way of it?
The fallow patch isn’t failure. It’s preparation.
Something is composting. Something new is forming underneath the flatness. It doesn’t look like anything yet. That’s the point.
Your only job right now is not to pathologise the pause.
Rest. Let it move through you. The energy will return when it’s ready, and it will be pointed somewhere new.
Ready to find out what’s actually in the shadows?
A healing session with me goes beneath the surface, into the nervous system, the ancestral patterns, the subconscious stories that have been quietly running the show. We find what’s there, and we shift it.
If something in this blog landed for you, that’s not an accident.
