I’m currently in the Italian Alps with a soul sister friend I met in shaman school over 20 years ago.
Each morning under the hot sunshine, we start the incline, our bodies creaking, alerting us to all the niggles surfacing from our tired limbs, the laboured breathing…
Each of us thinking, “Why am I doing this?” And we keep ascending and reach the vista point, WOW!
Ah. This is why.
Sheer breathtaking beauty. Connection with Godly creation. Tapping into my inner knowing, resilience and power.
Joy.
I think of all the mountains I’ve traversed in my life filled with memories of adventurous life experiences, each one bringing me to a deeper relationship with myself.
Because my friend and I share shamanic philosophies and understanding we have been discussing “the bigger picture,” why we respond the way we do to circumstances.
Why we become triggered by different things, what’s the deeper meaning?
Because of my own birth trauma my default mode has been one of frustration and feeling out of control.
Hiking up a mountain is challenging but also reaffirms that when I connect with nature, it fuels me. It feeds my soul and seems to erase the “worldly stuff” that we tend to carry around with us.
After a lifetime of fitness it is reassuring to know that even when I don’t feel like I have any reserves, in truth, I do!
We may feel out of control but most people are stronger than we think we are! Not just physically, but emotionally and mentally.
Is there a repeating pattern, emotion, mental state that you experience in different situations?
It could be related to your birth trauma! The imprint that lets us know how we are going to choose to experience our lives.
Hiking in the alps is stunningly beautiful and it’s a holiday I choose so obviously it’s easy to feel happy about the struggles associated.
Neither one of us is complaining, quite the opposite in fact, lots of laughter at our limitations!
We’re hiking slowly, taking breaks, enjoying all the moments and not pushing ourselves to prove anything, we set the challenge and make the most of it.
I have learned to reframe my frustration by understanding where it came from and why. I have learned to go with the flow instead of needing to control everything.
Are you making the most out of the daily challenges you have?
Or are you punishing yourself for what you’re NOT accomplishing?
Are you stuck in a repetitive cycle?
Do you know about your birth experience? It can be much more impacting on your life than you think!
Today is a very needed rest day. We’re sitting at an outside table with a perfect view and enjoying each other’s philosophies of life, and taking our own time to attend to what we need.
What do you need to attend to within yourself?
What do you love to do that for some reason you’ve stopped?
Think about the “reasons” why and you may notice that in fact they are just excuses. If you’re justifying anything, it’s an excuse.
When we’re feeling challenged in whatever form, that is the time to get resourceful and find the best way through for you.
Thank you mountains, I feel renewed.
Want to discover your repeating patterns so you can finally heal them? You don’t need to climb a mountain to do it, you just have to book a call.
