What’s your hair trigger? Why do you have it?
What is a hair trigger? Nothing to do with hair!
An emotional hair trigger is when you erupt quickly or violently perhaps, even with the slightest provocation. Technically, it’s also on a gun, a hair trigger, where you barely have to touch it and gun will fire. Also on a controller for a PlayStation or other gaming controls.
A hair trigger means it happens very quickly with the slightest amount of provocation.
If you have hair triggers in this lifetime, has it ever dawned on you to think about, why?
Why do I have a hair trigger about “this?” Maybe you’re not even aware of it because it only comes up as and when.
Sometimes people talk about hair trigger anger, when you get angry immediately, you explode in a rage over something that really doesn’t warrant that much energy, but you are livid.
Where did that come from? Who did you learn that from?
You probably learned it from your parents. Perhaps you came into this world with parents who were constantly screaming at each other, constantly having fights and were always angry. You saw your parents modeling to you that to ‘resolve problems’ was to scream at each other or throw things at each other. And you modeled that behavior, but also listened to that anger all of the time. So the ‘baby you’ decided that must be the way forward.
Babies have to believe their parents. We cannot believe that our parents are lying to us, because we need our parents for survival. So you might have hair trigger anger around that, or not being able to cope with somebody else’s anger. If somebody gets angry around you, you immediately get triggered. You get upset, and you get angry because you had to deal with that all of the time.
Maybe you have a hair trigger about fearful things, things we might call “irrational fear.” Maybe drowning, or vehemently not liking to be under the water. Maybe as a baby in the bathtub, you nearly drowned. Or as a young child, you may have nearly drowned.
Karmically, perhaps in a past life, you drowned, or one of your ancestors did, and that has been passed down to you.
Maybe you have an “irrational hair trigger fear” of falling because of being dropped when you were a baby or from having an accident. Perhaps your mother fell during pregnancy and feared for your life, or it’s from your ancestors or a past life.
It’s important to realise if you have an immediate, gripping emotional response to the smallest thing that chances are that you are still bound to that birth imprint that I’m always talking about.
Our birth imprint that impacts us from how we’ve come into the world and the way in which we deal with the world as we develop.
Maybe as an adult, you have a hair trigger absolute “NO!” for anything to do with alcohol and drugs, because you saw your parents abusing that and you grew up in that environment. Or you were a crack addict baby! And so you have absolute resistance, no allowances, no discussion of any of that. Or also possible is a hair trigger need to escape from your feelings and you too become an addict.
If somebody is unfaithful to you, you might have a hair trigger reaction of, “That’s it. It’s over. There’s no circumstance in the world that that could possibly be allowed!” Even though it takes two people to make a relationship, and it takes two people to break a relationship. Because maybe you witnessed that, maybe you were part of that kind of environment, or your grandparents were. So your hair trigger is about loyalty, or lack thereof.
There’s so many different possible emotions and hair trigger explosions that you might still be reacting to because of your birth imprint. Food, money, not being heard, seen, held, having to be perfect, smoking, racism, criminals, small spaces, authority… you name it. If you have a strong immediate reaction to something, think back to your birth imprint.
Wouldn’t it be great to not have to be bound by your hair triggers anymore so that you won’t keep losing your temper over the smallest things? So that you won’t continue to completely freak out in X,Y,Z …circumstances, depending on what it was connected to?
It’s so fascinating to see how our birth imprints stay with us, and we carry them all the way through life, often without noticing, because we think, “this can’t possibly be related to my birth when I’m already a fully grown adult, and I have grown kids of my own!”
But guess what, it can! Telling your story, especially if you share it with me, is important so I can help you connect the dots of circumstances that may not even register in your mind, so you can see how you’re carrying your birth imprint and that young child perception of how things are in the world.
You don’t need to be bound by that anymore. We have free will and free choice. That’s the best thing about being human and how you respond to things is a choice. It’s a learned behavior, but if you learned one behavior, you can unlearn it and learn a better way forward for you.
You don’t have to have such high highs and low lows, you can move through life on a steady, even, balanced path, while not losing your wonderful sense of humor and the good drama about you if you’re a bigger than life person.
I used to think, if I became a healer, I’d have to be so serious all the time and lose my sense of humor and playfulness. Not at all. But we want inner peace and we want balance. So why be triggered by stuff that ought not to have an impact on us now at this phase of life?
If this makes sense to you, like it does for me, book a mind shift call, let’stalk for 20 minutes and see what’s going on. I’d love to hear from you.
