A multitude of life experiences and events can fall under the umbrella of trauma.  There is more obvious trauma, like accidents, death, or violence of any kind.

And there is other types of trauma like extreme stress, being evicted, floods, fire, your car being stolen, or your house being robbed for example.

And then there’s emotional trauma.  I think just about every person in the world has experienced that in one form or another!

That too can be more apparent in narcissistic relationships, or physically abusive relationships, or if either of your parents, or partner was an addict, or depressed.

But trauma also happens when we don’t even realise it is compounding in our cells, little by little over time.  Trauma changes us and forces us to behave in a different way than we would normally.

It then becomes our new uncomfortable comfort zone if we stay in it long enough.

Lockdown has been traumatic for many people.  Anxiety, overwhelm, stress, fear; all components of trauma.  It sneaks in, and gangs up on you!

The way we perceive and deal with trauma however can make it much worse, or better.

The way we perceived things as children could have resulted in trauma. I had a client once who was terrified to speak in her company meetings.

We’re not even talking about getting up in front of thousands, just around a table of colleagues.  She was otherwise confident and good at her job.

When we got down to the root, it came to her 4th or 5th birthday party and she was at the head of the table and everyone was laughing and staring at her, telling her to blow out the candles and she was overwhelmed by all of the noise and attention.

Now, you wouldn’t think a birthday party would classify as TRAUMA, except that she carried that around with her, her whole life and the company meeting table, and people waiting for her to speak, triggered her childhood trauma.

Makes you think doesn’t it?

There are so many more examples of how trauma infiltrates our system, and then gets suppressed and stuck in our bodies like pixelated shadow parts.
